Announcement

Image
This post is simply to explain that since I came into Digital Art later than the beginning of the year, I didn't have time to complete all the assignments. I tried to focus on the more interesting ones first, and so as a result I didn't have a chance to do: Light Painting, and Stranger Photos, and that's why they're not on my blog. Everything else is, though. Sorry!

Stop Motion

Image
This image is just so that something would appear under the title :). This assignment was really fun! I had to make a short video with music-- but it all had to be made with stop motion! Although my video is (really) short, stop motion is a very time-consuming process and this video took quite a long time to make. I added an old-timey film filter to the video because I think that it somehow adds to the humor of the video. I hope you enjoy it!

Image Inside Text

Image
This was a really fun and easy assignment that required me to use Photoshop CS5 to put an image inside text. I chose to do the word summer with a summer beach scene inside it. Following instructions from online, I created a clipping mask on the image to make it fit perfectly inside the letters. Overall, I think that it looks really cool, and it's great that it was so easy!

Album Cover

Image
The instructions for this assignment told me to create an album cover for a band that I would be in. I decided to call my album "Walking on Air". First, I painted the background with a gradient and some simple cartoon clouds, and then I scanned line art that I drew and colored it to make the words and person in the foreground. Although the name of the band isn't on the cover, I would call my band 'The Man in the Moon' because I think that it's a cool name (although if I put a lot of time into thinking about it I would probably change it, because there are so many cool names out there)! I really like how this turned out, and I hope you do too!

Shadow Study

Image
For this assignment, I had to take photos where the focus was on the shadows of objects. Since it was a cloudy day, I had to use an artificial light source (a lamp) to take the photos. I think it turned out really cool!

Human/Nature Portrait

Image
For this assignment, I had to seamlessly blend a person with nature to create a really cool surreal portrait. It was modeled after the work of Antonio Mora and I decided to blend a heavily made-up face with a monarch butterfly because I thought the deep darks of the eyelashes match the blacks on the butterfly's wings.

Hockney- esque "Joiner"

Image
The abstracted photo that you see before you is a picture I took of the vegetable garden in my backyard. There aren't many vegetables, but the flowers are really pretty! Anyways, this assignment was for me to create a "joiner" in the style of David Hockney's collages. I took parts of the original photo and made a collage with them that is just a little bit off: enough for it to look cool, but you can still tell what it is.

Shape/Color Cartoon Character

Image
For this assignment, I had to use the cookie cutter tool a lot! I was restricted to the basic shapes (squares, triangles, circles) and I used them to create this green alien guy! I then used other shapes to create the background. He is standing on the moon, which is made of (sharp cheddar) cheese, and you can see the alien flag in the background. Here is some info about this green guy: Name: Qwerty Personality: He is very friendly, and loves to tell jokes. But they're not that funny, and people only laugh at them as to not hurt his feelings. Birthplace: He was actually born on Mars, and is the first of his kind to explore Luna, Earth's moon! Current Location: The moon Age: About 28 bubbles (alien unit of measurement), compared to a human he is about 36. Favorite Things: Ckae (alien cake), smoofs (alien cats), jokes/puns, and his friends and family Least Favorite Things: Vegetlbaes (alien vegetables) and that's it! He's pretty agreeable. Occupation:

Photowalk

Image
For this assignment, I got to walk around campus on a beautiful rainy day and take pictures of things that interested me. The water on everything as well as the soft cloudy skies made for really great pictures!  My camera wouldn't focus completely on the spiderweb (it was so fine that the camera focused on the background) but I still really like this picture! A chalk drawing right outside the digital art room. I think that it really sums up the purpose of school. These flowers are on a plant right outside C building. A table outside the tech room collected some cool droplets! The same goes for this ordinary pole, made beautiful by the rain. Where did this rose petal come from? A sprinkler head right outside the digital art room. Aaaaaand a fence. This cool picture was just waiting to happen! As I walked out of the art room, I noticed something lying on the ground. When I walked over to take a closer look, I noticed how pretty the water made the

Macro Photo Shoot

Image
This assignment was a lot more fun than I expected it to be! I grabbed a couple of models (a binder clip, bell pepper, apple, sea urchin shell, and whisk) and took them outside to my backyard to take pictures of them with the Macro setting. The camera I used wasn't the best quality (so the photos aren't as sharp as I wanted them to be) but I think the use of the Macro setting really puts the focus on the 'models'.  Binder clips make the best models ever! They never move and always look beautiful! XD A bell pepper strikes a pose on a platter in my backyard. A nice headshot of this beautiful shiny apple! Wow.... this platter sure appears in a lot of photos.... Eggo whisk!
